What are dentures?

Dentures provide an incredible solution for replacing multiple teeth or even the entire set of top or bottom teeth. Each set of custom-made dentures consists of a set of replacement teeth that are attached to a fleshy, gum-colored acrylic base. Dentures are either held in place with clasps or rooted in a support system, such as dental implants.

This is a very popular option for patients when it comes to replacing an entire set of top or bottom teeth, or just several missing teeth. How does the procedure for dentures work?

If you decide on dentures, either full or partial, Dr. Nassiri and the team will take detailed impressions of your teeth. They send these impressions off to a dental lab where your dentures are custom-made according to Vivo Dental’s shape, size, and shape specifications. All sets of dentures can be made metal-free. 

Typically, it takes one or two weeks to make your new dentures. Once they’re ready, you’ll return to the office for a follow-up visit to make sure your dentures fit snugly. Dr. Nassiri and the team will be in touch with you over the following weeks to make sure you’re adjusting well to your new dentures. 

Is there an adjustment period with my new dentures? 

Yes, there’s definitely an adjustment period when you start wearing your new dentures. At first, your dentures might feel slightly loose. It’s important to know that this sensation is totally natural. What’s happening is that the muscles in your mouth need time to get used to your new dentures and hold them in place. 

During this time, you might notice an increased flow of saliva. In some rare cases, you might feel temporary nausea or soreness. 

These feelings of discomfort will subside in a few days or weeks, at most. Once you fully adjust, your new dentures will actually make your mouth feel better, as they improve your speech, chewing, and digestion.
